SMAC was founded in 2004 by a few audio fanatics who needed to share their enthusiasm for audio gear and music with others. Then, the group’s first meeting brought together less than ten passionate audio lovers. SMAC is now over 250 members strong. Typical meetings comprise twenty to thirty members.
We are an informal group. Each month (we haven’t missed a month yet!), a volunteer host invites folks over for a listen. Often at these “meetings” we have a formal presentation from an interested member or a special guest on music or audio gear.
Our diverse members are interested in everything from Shostakovich to the Sex Pistols. In the past eight years, we’ve heard flea-powered amps that cost less than $100 and big-buck preamps that are so rare only a handful were ever made.
SMAC’s mission is to provide a community for Southeast Michigan audio enthusiasts to connect with and to inspire one another. But each of us is also interested in promoting, sponsoring and cultivating high quality audio reproduction wherever and whenever we can.
We have our own website at http://sites.google.com/site/michiganaudioclub and our own forum at www.audiokarma.org entitled “SMAC Forum,” where meeting dates and often pictures of meets are posted. We also use the forum to discuss important ideas and musical events that may be of interest to SMAC members. We also use our email list to buy, sell, trade, and swap gear.
You can join the club by sending an email request to jeffrmathers@gmail.com.
