What is an AKFest?
It all started in 2003 when I invited a few Audiokarma.org members to my house for a few beers and to listen to my stereo system. Before I knew it, 75-plus members wanted to come. Obviously, my very small abode was not going to accommodate this get together. So I got on the phone and located space in a nearby hotel. From there, the show has grown into what it is now: the Midwest’s premier audio show.

When is AKFest 2010?
AKFest 2010 runs Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2, 2010 at the posh Sheraton Detroit Novi Hotel in Novi, Michigan. The admission fee is $25 for both days and includes a live show on Saturday. Preformers to be announced soon.

What is Audiokarma.org?
Audiokarma.org started as an audio-related message board that was created by my good friend Tim Poliniak as a place for his friends to hang out and talk audio without the attitude that can be annoying on other websites. Seven years later, we have a global membership of over 49,000 and have added a variety of forums for our diverse membership. We still pride ourselves on having one of the friendliest and most civil bulletin boards on the web.

Why AKFest 2010?
Speaking from my own personal experience attending many other audio shows, AKFest is just flat-out fun! Not that those other shows are not, but they do tend to be stuffier. We try hard to make everyone feel relaxed and welcomed, regardless of their experience. Our attendees and exhibitors tell us how much fun they have had and that translates to a welcoming atmosphere for our guests, veteran audiophiles, novices, and many of our first-time show goers.

What should I expect upon arrival?
When you arrive, you will be greeted by our wonderful staff who will quickly get you registered and on your way. You’ll receive a map and a lanyard with an ID that allows you to access all the fun at AKFest 2010. That's it! Don't forget to stop by the raffle table and pick up some raffle tickets for a chance at some wonderful prizes from our growing list of sponsors.

The Exhibit Rooms.
Come on in and check it out! You may find tube–powered or solid state amplifiers driving full systems. Maybe a DIY components dealer selling drivers and speaker building kits. Or the latest in digital download technology, or a fine analog system, spinning LPs, or even tapes. Discover everything from modestly priced component systems to the ultimate dream set-up or anything in between. Factory representatives, dealers/distributors, and hobbyists will all be there to show off their finest gear.

Don’t be shy about asking the room host about his or her system. The exhibitors are there for you. You can arrange to purchase almost anything you see. There will also be swap rooms, selling gear, used records, and CDs.

Take your time to make your way around the show and see what AKFest 2010 has to offer. If a room is closed, just knock. It may be busy or the host may be out visiting with friends for a few minutes. Check back later. If you can’t get to every room on Saturday, come back on Sunday and finish your tour. And be sure to bring your favorite music so that you can experience it on all the different systems.

Ultimately...
Come on out, hear great music, and learn all about new audio gear. While you're at it, maybe win a prize and enjoy some live music. But most of all, have a great time, make new friends, and have lots of fun!
